PROJECTS

Jo Lopez's longtime idea below is now a real effort:

VOTE FOR A STAMP BEARING JACO'S NAME HERE

This is a petition to the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee for recommendation to
the Postmaster General that Jaco Pastorius be honored with a commemorative postage
stamp to be issued by the U.S. Postal Service. Pastorius is known as The World's
Greatest Bass Player for his innovative techniques and challenging compositions.

THE PROCESS OF NAMING JACO PASTORIUS PARK

Robert Rutherford from Oakland Park, Florida, who is active in his City, petitioned the
commissioners to name the new park in progress after Jaco. Robert and I canvassed the
streets dropping off petitions on doorknobs within Oakland Park, as well were signatures
collected world wide. A few caring friends and fans attended City Hall meetings to share
with the commissioners what Jaco meant to them and the world, that he had lived in
OP as a youngster, delivering papers, as well as writing his first compositions.

After notifying Mary and John Pastorius, Jaco's children from his first marriage,
about this effort, the whole endeavor became a nightmare fueled by control and egos.
We first got berated for even partaking, then Robert and I received a cease & desist.

But when it actually came to convincing the commissioners, sadly no one of the corporation
addressed the officials on behalf of Jaco to name the park. Robert and I never stopped.

Robert Rutherford filled out and signed the application to name the park after Jaco, which
included suggestions for a mural, as well as planting Jaco's favorite plants, Crotons.

At the third City meeting, see third video down below, after the 4 minute speeches,
the commissioners voiced their decision to name the park after Jaco.

Here are some videos and articles to support the above:

Jaco Incorporated Strikes Back

But, most importantly, it came to fruition, thanks to the City of Oakland Park,
Robert Rutherford, and Jaco's friends and fans.

SAPERE AUDE:

art by Gregory Pastorius

This for nonprofit homegrown magazine addresses human issues
through art, language, ideas, and ideals. Editor Peter Maximilian,
along with friends and family, including his children, as well as
Jaco's brothers Gregory, and Rory, and Jaco's twins Julius and Felix,
have participated in previous issues. Still available is the 13th issuance
which focusses on the human relationship of "pride versus virtue".
